"Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me, for in you my soul takes refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed. I cry out to God Most High, to God, who fulfills his purposes for me” (Psalm 57:1-2).
Perhaps you have seen what happened in Brumadinho, Brazil last Friday, January 25. One of the dams of the Vale do Rio Doce collapsed, which sent toxic mud that flooded the area and impacted hundreds of people and property. So far there are 58 deaths and 305 people missing and both numbers continue to rise.
There is much to be done. At this point, the focus is on spiritual and physical relief. I have been in contact with Pastor Valdir Schraiber whose church, Igreja Luterana Cordeiro de Deus, is close to the affected area. He and his congregation are working to assist the families who have lost their loved ones and their property; visiting the shelters and hospitals; and bringing comfort and hope.
Because of my connection to Brazil, many people have contacted me to ask how they can help. This is how you can help: You and/or your congregation can support the relief effort undertaken by Iglesia Luterana Cordeiro de Deus through your donations. All funds will be used to provide the impacted people with food, clothing, shelter, and medicine. Please contact me with any questions. For donations,
